3 REASONS TO RUN THE TENERIFE BLUETRAIL BY UTMB® IN 2027
An edition destined to mark a turning point
The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® will return from 8 to 10 April 2027 with some major new features that promise to make this edition one of the most special in its history.
Organised by the Cabildo de Tenerife through Ideco, the event remains true to its essence as a unique sporting experience that takes participants through some of the island’s most breathtaking landscapes. However, next year runners will find new opportunities to challenge their limits and discover Tenerife from unprecedented perspectives.
These are three reasons why 2027 could be the perfect year to experience La Mágica.
1. Introducing the new 68k event
The big news for 2027 will be the introduction of a new 68-kilometre race, which will take place on Friday 9 April at 8:00 a.m.
Setting off from Plaza del Adelantado in La Esperanza, El Rosario, this route has been designed to offer a challenging and spectacular experience, combining historic trails, woodlands and some of the island’s most iconic landscapes.
The route links up with the GR-131 and passes through iconic locations such as Las Raíces, Las Lagunetas and the pine forests of La Orotava before reaching the finish line in Puerto de la Cruz.
In addition, the 68k will have an important added attraction: the first three finishers will gain direct access to the HOKA UTMB® Mont-Blanc 2027 in Chamonix.
A unique opportunity for those looking to take another step within the UTMB® World Series universe.
2. The 73k evolves and becomes a true 82k
Another major new feature will come in one of the most popular categories of the event.
The current 73k increases its distance and becomes a new 82k, offering an even more ambitious challenge for mountain ultra lovers.
This change means more kilometres, greater elevation gain and an enhanced experience for those who enjoy tackling long trail running sessions. The new 82k will maintain the essence that has made it one of the favourite options for runners, but will add an extra dimension of adventure and challenge.
For many participants, it will be the perfect opportunity to try a longer distance without jumping straight into the demanding 110k.
3. A completely revamped Vertical Night Challenge
The Vertical Night Challenge is also being reinvented in 2027.
The race will feature a new 6.5-kilometre route, starting from Playa del Socorro in Los Realejos and climbing up to the Mirador de La Corona viewpoint.
This new route will allow participants to enjoy a different experience, starting practically at sea level and gradually gaining altitude until reaching one of the most spectacular viewpoints in northern Tenerife.
The combination of elevation gain, physical exertion and natural surroundings promises to make this new Vertical one of the most appealing events on the programme.
Much more than just a race
Apart from the exciting new developments, the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® continues to offer everything that has made it an international benchmark in trail running.
Its ability to connect ocean, forests, volcanoes and high mountains into a single sporting experience makes it a challenge that is hard to find anywhere else in the world.
With every kilometre, you’ll discover a new side to Tenerife, as you walk along trails that wind through some of the most spectacular natural landscapes in the Canary Islands.
La Mágica awaits you in 2027
The new 68k, the evolution of the 73k into an 82k, and the debut of a completely revamped Vertical Night Challenge are just some of the reasons to look ahead to April 2027.
Each edition writes new stories. In Tenerife, the mountains always hold a new challenge for those who dare to discover them.
