The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® 110k crosses six breathtaking landscapes
The Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® is back on 6, 7 and 8 June. Spain's highest race and Europe's second highest features a total of six categories: 110 km, 73 km, 47 km, 24 km, 47 km relay and a 3.5 km vertical night race. Organised by the Cabildo de Tenerife, through its public company Ideco, the event is celebrating its thirteenth anniversary. For the first time, it is part of the UTMB® World Series, the world's leading trail running circuit, which includes 42 events around the world. The longest distance category of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® will start at Los Cristianos Beach and finish in Puerto de la Cruz, traversing the Teide National Park. Whether you choose to run in this category or try your luck in one of the shorter distance events, the trials cross many of the most stunning and iconic places on the island of Tenerife. Ifonche The Protected Landscape of Ifonche is a rural area featuring scattered farmhouses, allotments and farming terraces, as well as traditional dry stone walls and "jable" sandy reservoirs, which are typical of the southern Tenerife landscape. This section will be run under a starry sky since the start of the race will be at 11 pm and Ifonche is 19.5 km away from the start. Vilaflor As the runners reach Tenerife's central regions, they will run along winding trails steeped in hundreds of years of history. The Camino Real de Chasna, an ancient path inherited from the Guanches, is one such route, which runs along the foot of the imposing Teide volcano. The Lunar Landscape This amazing geographical phenomenon of volcanic origin is hidden among pine-covered hillsides and can be savoured by runners taking part in the event. The Lunar Landscape is made up of multiple cone-shaped formations and looks like something from another planet. Erosion has created multiple layers of whitish-white volcanic ash on these slopes over thousands of years, resulting in a spectacle worthy of the Earth's only natural satellite. Degollada de Guajara Runners will be left speechless when they watch the sunrise at an altitude of 2,500 metres, especially with the breathtaking view of the Las Cañadas cirque and the Teide in the background. Teide is the world's third highest volcano if you take the bottom of the ocean as a reference point. La Rambleta At 3,555 metres above sea level, La Rambleta is only 200 metres from the summit of Teide. On days with good visibility, visitors can see the rest of the Canary Islands from the viewpoints near this spot, and the bluetrailers will be treated to one of the National Park's finest views. An extraordinary geological treasure trove spreads out before participants' eyes, dominated by towering volcanic cones, steep ridges and vibrantly coloured rock formations. Montaña Blanca Standing at an altitude of 2,700 metres, this volcanic peak does not have a very distinct shape, in fact it seems to belong to another planet. Runners have the chance to cross an arid landscape, but one which is full of endemic species, typical of the Teide National Park. At each stage of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB®, runners get to witness Tenerife's astonishingly diverse landscape, from picturesque villages to breathtaking panoramic views. This is a physically challenging journey, but one that awakens emotions and leaves a lasting impression on all the athletes who take part in the most magical race of the year. Have we convinced you? If so, remember that you still have time to register for any of the categories for which there are still places available.
