Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB® will become the second event in Spain to join the UTMB® World Series in 2024, giving the large community of runners across the country the opportunity to explore the highest peak in Spain and its surroundings.

Taking place from the 6-8 June 2024, runners can choose from four UTMB Category races, as well as a Vertical Night challenge and a range of community races. Registration will open to UTMB Index Holders on the 4th December, with General Registration opening on 6th December at tenerife.utmb.world.

Hosted by island of Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, the race will celebrate its 13th edition in 2024. Runners will embark on a journey from the coast to 3,555 metres above sea level as they discover the towering Teide volcano, the third-tallest volcano in the world from its base on the ocean floor.

The volcano and its surroundings make up the Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site considered one of nature’s true wonders. Runners will be immersed in a variety of landscapes across all races, with the chance to explore other-worldly scenes while traversing the jagged rocks of lava flows and running between volcanic peaks. Descents though steep pine and laurel forests to the coastal paths on the north coast and the finish line on the Martiánez beach will have every sense awakened.

Four races will offer finishers the chance to collect Running Stones. Runners in the Tenerife Bluetrail 110K / 6,250m+ (100M category) race, and the Tenerife Bluetrail 73K / 3,150m+ (100K category) race, will be able to breath in the pure air from the summit of Teide on their adventure. The Tenerife Bluetrail 47K /2,600m+ (50K category) race and the Tenerife Bluetrail 24K / 1,300m+ (20K category) race both pose a challenge from the region’s mythical ascents to its coast.

The event will also feature a 47km challenge for pairs, the Tenerife Bluetrail Relay, a 3.5km Vertical Night Challenge, kids and family races, as well as two adapted races for athletes with motor disabilities, to ensure everyone can share the unique experience and create ever-lasting memories with friends or family.

Lope Afonso, Vice-President and Councillor for Tourism of the Cabildo of Tenerife, emphasized the importance of the Tenerife Bluetrail by UTMB, the highest mountain race in Spain and the second highest in Europe, becoming part of the UTMB World Series. "Joining the UTMB World Series is another step towards the internationalization of the race and will help to show the world the possibilities that Tenerife offers for outdoor sports 365 days a year, thanks to its excellent weather and first-class hotel infrastructure. This will allow our race to continue to grow all over the world, attracting more and more athletes who want to take part in a unique race in exceptional locations and at the same time take advantage of their stay on the island to enjoy all that Tenerife has to offer.”

41 events are now confirmed for the 2024 UTMB World Series, giving trail running communities around the world the chance to find a race closer to them. The calendar currently features 19 events in Europe, including the Dacia UTMB Mont-Blanc, the founding race of the global circuit and the home of the UTMB World Series Finals.
